B3 - Health and Welfare Plans: Plan Types & Administration

Selecting a health insurance plan for your employees may seem like an overwhelming decision. This course makes it easier and covers the fundamentals of health and welfare plans every HR practitioner must know. The entire array of health and welfare plans is covered, from conventional fee-for-service options to the full suite of managed care plans, including health maintenance organizations (HMOs), preferred provider organizations (PPOs) and point of services (POS). You’ll dive into the fundamentals of each and learn how to manage them in your organization.

  • Describe the various types of health care and welfare benefits.
  • Explain the different types of medical plans and the characteristics of each.
  • Describe additional, optional health care benefits and how they can be used to support employees.
  • Examine the concept of consumerism and how offering choice in benefits can influence employee outcomes.
  • Outline the different types of welfare plans, their provisions and how these benefits function in a total rewards package.
  • Explain pay-for-time-not-worked programs and common issues associated with it.
  • Highlight the components of health, welfare and other programs in benefits administration.
